Alex Sewell

for Kent Town Supervisor

This Town is Your Town.

Meet Alex

With over 15 years of community organizing experience across various fields, Alex Sewell is the choice for strengthening our town.

Meet Alex

Alex is a father, husband, and resident of Lake Carmel here in the Town of Kent. With his background being a union steward, laborer, and organizer, Alex understands advocacy, leadership, and the needs of working families.

He has been a dedicated advocate for Kent, actively lobbying for state legislation and leading civic initiatives. As a private citizen, he’s volunteered on the Town and County level as a Kent ClimateSmart Committee Member, Sustainable Putnam Volunteer and Repair Coach, Putnam County Land Trust Steward, and advisor to the Putnam County Arts Council.

Now, he’s running for Town Supervisor to make Kent more transparent, accessible, inclusive, and forward-thinking—where government serves the people, infrastructure is strengthened, and all residents can thrive as we move forward in a new future, together.

Issues

Alex Sewell is ready to bring accountability, innovation, and collaboration to Town Hall. Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant Kent for generations to come.

Issues

1.

Smart Investments & Infrastructure

  • Secure and maximize grant funding to offset the costs of highway and municipal maintenance, especially in response to damage from extreme weather challenges.
  • Align with neighboring towns to lobby for fair sales tax revenue sharing from the county.
  • Continue to expand walkability initiatives through grant programs to encourage community engagement and safer, pedestrian-friendly spaces.

2.

Building a Stronger Local Economy

  • Launch capital abatement grants to revitalize third spaces such as the Lake Carmel Community Center—public gathering spots that foster local culture, business, and social capital.
  • Support the creation of a Young Business Association, helping local youth establish entrepreneurial opportunities in Kent and provide jobs to their peers.
  • Improve transparency and efficiency in equipment and vehicle sharing planning among Putnam County towns to cut costs and improve services.

3.

Community Engagement & Government Transparency

  • Advocate for open-door governance, encouraging public participation in town decisions through forums, advisory councils, and drop-in appointments.
  • Maintain consistent dialogue with local and state representatives to better serve Kent’s interests.
  • Host public forums in addition to the town’s official agenda to ensure all voices are heard.

4.

Supporting Seniors & Families

  • Expand outreach to raise awareness of property tax relief programs for seniors.
  • Establish a pilot help line for seniors, offering assistance during weather-related or health emergencies.
  • Propose community events that connect seniors with younger generations, fostering intergenerational relationships.

5.

Environmental Stewardship & Watershed Protection

  • Strengthen partnerships with DEC and DEP to advocate for better watershed health and maintenance policies to best serve Kent.
  • Continue championing sustainable initiatives that preserve Kent’s natural resources and accessibility of these resources.
